Final Year Project (FYP)

Purpose

The ANPM also commits to offer Final Year Project opportunities to students of Timor – Leste National from Tertiary Educational Institutions and Vocational Training Centres. The Final Year Project covers Field Study Program and Data Information Collection for thesis purpose at the ANPM.

Offered Areas
The final year project should only cover areas that available at the ANPM such as:

>> Corporate Related Group

  • Corporate Finance

Note: Only selected areas of interest and agreed by both parties.
Period

Final Year Project at the ANPM may take as much as one to three months depending on the requirements provided in the areas of studies. The following timetable may assist the ANPM and students.

Notes:
1. Field Study Program – students will be attached to relevant department/directorate for whole days of working hours within the period regarding the ANPM’s working hour procedure.

2. Data Information Collection – students only come to the office for several meetings within a week for 2 to 4 hours long each meeting. The schedule will be discussed with the supervisor at the induction day.

The Tertiary Educational and Training Institutions are required to enter into a prior and formal understanding or agreement with the ANPM including nominating a focal point to be liaised with the ANPM. The formal understanding or agreement should be set up prior proposal submission.

The ANPM only offers project opportunities to those Tertiary Educational and Training Institutions that have formal understanding or agreement with the ANPM.

Proposal Criteria

  1. A student must be a Timor-Leste National
  2. The Educational and Training Institutions are required to enter into a prior and formal understanding or agreement with the ANPM including nominating a focal point to be liaised with the ANPM.
  3. The final year project coordinator should send a proposal in his/her acknowledgement and addressed to President of the ANPM with the subject “Proposal of FYP – Field Study Program” or “Proposal FYP – Data Information Collection for Thesis
  4. A good communication between the final year project coordinator and the supervisor and/or Training & Development Officer during the data collection process and completion term. The final year project coordinator’s contact detail has to be included in the letter of proposal.
  5. For data information collection, the student should have already had an approval thesis topic, including scope and methodology of the project which are indicated in chapter one to three of the thesis. A copy of chapter one to three of the thesis should be attached to the proposal.
  6. The student also should note that his/her responsibility to do final year project, with guidance from the ANPM supervisor/s.
  7. The ANPM President shall review the proposal from the university and reply with assistance of the Training & Development Officer to send a letter of reply and contact the final year project coordinator.
  8. A student should sign off a “Confidentiality Agreement” prior start the project.

 

Project Implementation

Data/Information Collection
A student who obtains authorization to carry out a research project with ANPM shall be required to submit their examined proposal from the university, which cover chapter one to chapter three. This is to ensure that a student has fulfilled requirements of the university for Data Collection. The students explore the concept independently and identify reliable, robust and relevant research materials available within the ANPM. The students develop a detailed picture of the different aspects and possible impacts contribute towards their thesis writing. In implementation of data collection, the students are required to:

  1. Present his/her self in the ANPM office as per advised by the T & D Officer.
  2. Follow an induction on process of the program at the first day of starting the program. It is conducted by the T & D Officer and designated supervisor.
  3. Sign a Confidentiality Agreement of which states that any documents she/he will obtain are not shared to other three parties unless to the university for thesis exam and library purposes.
  4. Deliver an oral presentation and/or discussion on her/his thesis writing proposal including chapter one to chapter three to a designated supervisor or/and to the relevant directorate in the ANPM.
  5. Think through his/her project strategy, plan and arrange for the necessary setting up of equipment and test apparatus, analyze the relevant factors, summarize the results obtained, and deduce conclusions. The supervisor/s will assist the student and provide the necessary explanation and guidance only.
  6. Carrying out the data collection, students should display initiative, develop an ability to extend ideas and expand on suggestions, and show a sense of responsibility.
  7. Consult with her/his supervisor/s on a regular basis, especially during the initial period and critical moments of her/his project.
  8. Timetable of the consultation envisages four (4) hours per week within the period. However, the students are expected to spend additional times on the project appropriate to its importance in considerations. It depends on agreed arrangement between designed supervisor and the student.
  9. Conclude the research within period decided by the ANPM, which is not exceeded up to three months.



Field Study Program
Once the ANPM agrees to accommodate students for field study program within a relevant directorate/department, the students shall comply to:

  1. Present his/her self in the ANPM office as per advised by the T&D Officer.
  2. Follow an induction on process of the program at the first day of starting the program. It is conducted by the T&D Officer and designated supervisor.
  3. Sign a Confidentiality Agreement of which states that any documents she/he will obtain are not shared to other three parties unless to the university for thesis exam and library purposes.
  4. Discuss with designated supervisor(s) on course topics including their explanations and assignments.
  5. Have good communication and team work among students and supervisor(s), and other colleagues within the same department/directorate.
  6. Conclude the any requirements of field study program at the end of the program, such final draft report and PowerPoint slides for presentation purpose.
Project Progress

  1. During the implementing of the project, the students’ progress will be closely monitored by designated supervisor(s), through meetings and reviewing the progress of the data analysis.
  2. Students are expected to meet with their supervisor/s and provide activity reports on a weekly basis within the time period. This shall take place during the time slot reserved by the supervisor(s) at every progress and consultation meeting.
  3. The first meeting will be an orientation meeting where supervisor/s goes over the documents and explain to students the problem solving outcomes along with the assessment tools used to evaluate their work. All other regular meetings with supervisors serve as a good opportunity for the supervisor/s to mentor students.

Project Completion

Final Draft of Thesis Writing/Report

  1. Students are required to submit their final draft of thesis (data/information collection) or report (field study) to designated supervisor to verify prior to the oral presentation time at the ANPM.
  2. The designated supervisor only verifies the truth of data/information that students use in their writing. Furthermore, T&D Officer evaluates overall writings regarding the campus standard format (both data collection and field study).
  3. The general format guideline of the written thesis is based on the university’s standard format. However, the precise format of it will depend on the nature of the project. What to include, or not, should be discussed between the student and the supervisor.
  4. Students are required to submit a softcopy of final thesis writing or report plus PowerPoint slides to the designated supervisor(s) and T&D Officer for final evaluation and completion letter arrangement.
  5. For students of data/information collection shall submit a hardcopy of their thesis after the examination to the ANPM for putting at the library for next students’ reference.



Oral Presentation

  1. Each student is required to do an oral presentation of the FYP work (both data collection and field study). The designated supervisor(s), relevant directorate team members and T&D Officer including other students from different department/directorate will attend the oral presentation.
  2. The presentation duration is a 30 minutes long plus extra times for discussion and answer sessions.
  3. The project is assessed in general both on content and delivery to ensure that the students is able to communicate project work been done in a standard worthy of degrees. The overall outcomes will be assessed by T&D Officer for issuing a completion letter accordingly.



Completion Letter

  1. A completion letter is a notification from the ANPM to a University to state that a student has completed FYP (data collection or field study) including complies with all requirements of FYP.
  2. Each university only proceeds to next arrangement of giving score or other examination purposes when there is a completion letter from the ANPM.
  3. The completion letter shall be arranged by T&D Officer post overall evaluation. It is signed off by a Director of the relevant directorate at the ANPM.
